How to clean makeup brushes and tools

Well cleaning your makeup brushes isn't the most exciting thing to do, now is it? But it's just one of those many things you have to do sooner rather than later.

The reason that cleaning brushes are an essential part of your makeup as well as skin care routine is that it spreads bacterial very easily, if you do not wash brushes regularly the bacteria will fester inside the brush, every time you use your brush it will pick up more and more bacteria and deposit some on your skin, this might just be why you are breaking out all the time. If you have problem or acne prone skin, I would advise you to wash your brushes more regularly than the average person. I would aim for at least once a week. If you are sharing brushes, clean them every 3-5 days.

Let the process begin:

Cleaning Makeup brushes:
♥ 1. Get all those dirty brushes together and lay them out.
♥ 2. Grab some paper towels and lay them out (you need this to lay your wet brushes on). Also take a hand towel and roll it up a bit. You need to lay the handle of the brush on an incline so the water doesn't settle in the glue that hold the bristles together but runs down the bristles instead.
♥ 3. Dampen the bristles slightly with lukewarm water, preferably at a running tap. (Remember to close the tap during steps, no need to waste water.)
♥ 4. Next you will need some shampoo/mild anti bacterial hand soap to clean the brushes. Pump a little onto your hand and start rubbing and swirling your brush. (Beware - you will see some ugly stuff rinsing out.) You may need to add a little more water as you go along. You may also use a bar soap. I like to use this with smaller brushes like an eyeliner brush.
♥ 5. Rinse the brush under lukewarm water. You may need to wash some brushes, like foundation brushes twice because they use the most product.
♥ 6. Before you lay the brush down to dry, you can re-mold it to its original shape if it is necessary.
♥ 7. Lay the brush down with the handle on the hand towel.
♥ 8. Continue each step with every brush.
♥ 9. Leave to dry for a couple of hours, but it would be best to leave it overnight.

You can also spot treat brushes with a little spritz of alcohol in between uses. The alcohol will dry the brush instantly.

To clean tools:
♥ 1. Dab a cotton round or cotton wool in a little surgical or rubbing alcohol and wipe of you tweezers, eyelash curlers, pencil sharpener etc.
♥ 2. Place some alcohol in a little sprayer, wipe the wands of mascara, lip glosses and lipsticks, then spray a little alcohol on and wipe off. It will dry instantly.

I hope you found this post helpful! And that you are going to jump up and clean those brushes NOW! ♥
